Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Kingdom of Norway will pay an official visit to India later this month.
Sources said the 33-year-old heir to the Norwegian throne is understood to have evinced
interest in Indian films. The Crown Prince's leisure interests include arts in general and
cinema and theatre in particular. Accordingly, Norwegian Film Corporation is considering
to organise certain events. A visit to one of the film studios in "Bollywood" may also be
on the cards for the official delegation accompanying the Crown Prince.
Crown Prince Haakon (born Haakon Magnus on July 20, 1973 in Oslo) is the heir
apparent to the throne of Norway. He is the second child and only son of King Harald V
and Queen Sonja. Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit were married on
August 25, 2001. The Royal House includes the couple's children, Princess Ingrid and
Prince Sverre Magnus.
Britain's Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, will be touring
Pakistan at about the time Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit visit
India. Incidentally, as a descendant of King Edward VII of the United Kingdom, Crown
Prince Haakon is currently the 61st in line to the British crown.
The Indo-Norwegian Business Cooperation too has organised events in Mumbai to
coincide with the visit. The events, which will be organised by the state-owned
Innovation Norway and Norwegian Shipowners Association in collaboration with
Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the Union Ministry
of Petroleum and Natural Gas, will focus on hydrocarbon and maritime sectors.
A Ministry of External Affairs document said that Norway today ranks as the world's third
largest exporter of crude oil after Saudi Arabia and Russia. Norway's maritime position
is third in the world. The existing Joint Working Group (JWG) on Hydrocarbons has been
brought under the Indo-Norwegian Joint Commission. The first meeting of the Joint
Commission was held in Oslo in last year.
