Mulford was presented with the Department of State Sue M Cobb Award for Exemplary
Diplomatic Service in a ceremony attended by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and
other senior diplomaic officials.

The US Embassy in New Delhi said in a press release that in presenting the award,
Ambassador Mulford was cited for his tireless and successful work in fostering the
United States' growing bilateral partnership with India.

US President George Bush wrote a special letter of thanks to the ambassador,
congratulating him on the award. Mr Bush said on the occasion: "Under your leadership,
we have seen the partnership between the United States and India strengthen and

Prime Minister's special envoy for the nuclear deal, in a bid to get them to taje the next
steps for operationalising the nuclear deal. Mr Mulford also travelled to Kolkata for talks
with West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya.
