Terrorism will remain the focus if the interrupted dialogue with Pakistan were to
restart, Minister of External Affairs SM Krishna said on the margins of a function held
here on Tuesday to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Fulbright programme in India.
He did not indicate whether, or how soon, the talks will resume.
He said "on talks with Pakistan, the doors were never shut". Asked repeatedly whether
the composite dialogue with Pakistan was about to resume, he only said, "Well, the
focus has always been on terror and terror infrastructure in Pakistan. The terror
infrastructure in Pakistan has been the focal point of dialogue with Pakistan and will
continue to be the focal point".
Mr Krishna reminded the Pakistan Government to further investigate the 26 November
2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Of late, Pakistan media has suggested that the composite dialogue with India could
resume. No structured talks have taken place since the Sharm-el-Sheikh fiasco in July
2009.
Minister of Home Affairs P Chidambaram has said that if he were to travel to Islamabad
for a meeting of SAARC home / interior ministers later this month, there was a possibility
of bilateral talks, although SAARC is a multilateral body.
Asked about the repeated attacks on Indian students in Australia, Mr Krishna -- himself a
Fulbright alumnus -- said that many Indians study abroad but it is only in Australia that
such attacks have taken place.
He said the attacks on Indian students in Australia is "unacceptable" and should be
stopped "forthwith".
