New Delhi
1 January 2010
The nationals from Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Singapore will
be able to enjoy the benefit of Indian tourist visa-on-arrival. The new facility was
introduced on Friday, for a period of one year, on an experimental basis.
The Ministry of External Affairs said here that the tourist visa-on-arrival has been
introduced to facilitate bonafide foreign tourists from the five countries who plan their
tours at a short notice. Tourists from these five countries could also procure their visas
from the Indian Missions / Posts in the normal course.
The "Tourist Visa-on-Arrival" will come with a maximum validity of 30 days, with single
entry facility. It would be granted by the immigration officers at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai
and Kolkata airports to start with.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs has clarified that the rule of a gap of two
months between two visits would apply to all tourist visa holders. But the restriction of
two-month gap will not apply to PIOs (Persons of Indian origin) or OCI (Overseas Citizen
of India) card-holders and foreigners holding business, employment, student and other
categories of visa.
