First crossing point at LoC to open tomorrow

The first "crossing point" at the Line of Control
will become operational on Monday, the government said on Saturday.

The spokesman of the Ministry of External Affairs told reporters that the
crossing point at Chakan da Bagh (Poonch) will be operationalised on
November 7. That will be followed up with the operationalisation of the
crossing points at Kaman (Uri) on November 9 and Tithwal (Tangdhar) on
November 10.

The spokesman said that the work to operationalise the crossing points
was begun after the agreement reached with Pakistan on October 29 in
Islamabad on opening five crossing points across the LoC for facilitating
movement of people and relief material for earthquake relief.

The spokesman said that the relief material for earthquake victims would
be sent through these crossing points. "People can start using these
points to cross the LoC as soon as their names are approved by both
sides," the spokesman said.

"As agreed, due to the non-availability of or damage to infrastructure at
the above crossing points, crossing would be permitted on foot. All
Indians desirous of using the crossing points may collect application
forms from and apply to Regional Passport Office in Srinagar, the
Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) or his representative in
district headquarters or Director (Pakistan) of the Ministry of External
Affairs in New Delhi," the statement issued by the Ministry added.
